We designed and installed this residential green roof above the homeowner’s front porch, using cactus and sedum to keep the home cool and insulated

This is a simple green roof on a front porch just of off Lafayette Avenue in Buffalo. It ensures the air blowing into the second floor of this house is cool in the summer and gives the owner green space to look out on from her home office. It is planted with a variety of sedum, some allium and prickly pear cactus. Because the area under the eaves didn’t receive enough water to support the original plantings we replaced them with cactus, which appear to be doing well a year after planting.
