This project, on Buffalo’s storied westside, was installed to help mitigate the effects of stormwater runoff on Buffalo’s combined sewer system. When our combined sewers overflow it called a CSO (combined sewer overflow). CSOs release raw sewage into our waterways. Green roofs a an effective tool in lessening pressure on our sewers. This roof consists of approx 3,000 sq ft of pregrown sedum mats growing on over 3 1/2″ of a custom, locally produced, growing medium. By putting a green roof on this building the owners have drastically reduced its impact on the combined sewer system and helped to keep our waterways free of sewage.
